Material Introduction
Polyoxymethylene (POM),  is a high-performance engineering plastic celebrated for its exceptional mechanical integrity, dimensional stability, and versatility in precision applications. Characterized by a linear molecular structure of repeating oxymethylene units, POM bridges the gap between traditional plastics and metals, offering a unique blend of rigidity, toughness, and wear resistance that makes it indispensable across industrial, automotive, and consumer sectors. Unlike many polymers, it maintains consistent performance across a wide temperature range (-40°C to 100°C for continuous use) and exhibits minimal creep under sustained load, ensuring reliability in critical components.
Its mechanical properties stand out among engineering plastics: POM delivers a tensile strength of 60–85 MPa, flexural modulus of 2.5–3.8 GPa, and impact strength (notched Izod) of 6–12 kJ/m², balancing rigidity with ductility for applications requiring both load-bearing capacity and resistance to sudden shocks. A key advantage is its excellent dimensional accuracy—with a low coefficient of linear thermal expansion  and near-zero moisture absorption ( at saturation), POM retains tight tolerances even in humid or temperature-fluctuating environments, eliminating the need for post-processing adjustments. Additionally, its low coefficient of friction (0.15–0.30, dry) and self-lubricating properties make it ideal for moving parts, reducing friction-induced wear and extending service life without frequent lubrication.
Chemically resilient, POM resists attack from fuels, oils, greases, and most organic solvents, while withstanding mild acids and alkalis—making it suitable for harsh operating conditions in automotive and industrial systems. It also boasts good machinability, allowing for precise turning, milling, and injection molding into complex geometries, from small gears to large structural components. Unlike some engineering plastics, POM requires no reinforcing fillers to achieve its core performance, though glass-fiber or carbon-fiber reinforced grades are available for enhanced stiffness in high-load applications
